New Music Monday

Here are 3 bands that I’m hoping are new for you so you can start your week off right.

1. Phoenix

Phoenix is an indie, electronic, rock band with a hint of pop upbeat sounds. I’ve been diggin it for a little while now but when I heard they were up for a Grammy I figured I had to talk about them. They are up for Best Alternative Music Album for Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix and they surely have my vote. If none of there songs get stuck in your head then you must not have been listening. The vocals and synths are addicting. They do have some tough competition though with bands like the Yeah Yeah Yeah, Death Cab For Cutie, Depeche Mode, and David Byrne & Brian Eno. Here is my favorite song off the album.

1901 - Phoenix

2. The Boy Least Likely To

Here is a band who has somehow not gained the popularity that they deserve. I love this band from Jolly Olde England. I can never feel anything but joy while listening. The use of interesting sounds and a seemingly childish attitude brings me back to my younger years. I’m not saying I am very old but I can imagine myself playing in a sandbox with my neighbor, thats all. The album art is also great and all of the drawings are done by the singer Jof Owen’s brother Tim. They did just come out with a new single called The Summer Of A Dormouse and you can hear it on their myspace but unfortunately it is only available on limited edition vinyl so I could not bring it to you but here is my favorite track by them.

Be Gentle With Me - The Boy Least Likely To

3. Matt & Kim

Matt & Kim are from brooklyn but believe it or not Matt is from Vermont (thats for all my fellow classmates). Their indie pop music is so simple but it also sounds so full at the same time. They have been playing a few festivals such as Lollapalooza since their album debut in 2006. The reason why I am talking about them right now is that they just won Best Video Woodie from MTVu. They have had a few great music videos and the video for “5K” was actually not allowed to be played in the US because it was too violent. I’ve seen it and its not all that bad just a little freaky. The won the Woodie for there music video Lessons Learned.
