Tobacco Is Good For You

Who would have thought this to be true but it is. Tobacco is one part of the Pennsylvania group Black Moth Super Rainbow and personally I think it is the better part. I love the electronic hip-hop beats and the song Dirty featuring Aesop Rock is one of those songs that I find myself listening to over and over again. Check out the album Fucked Up Friends.

New Music Monday #2

The Black Key have been around a little while now but they have just come out with the album Blakroc which is a collaboration between them and various hip hop artists including Ludacris, Mos Def, and RZA. Its actually a really good album. Hip hop and the Black Keys rock beats work surprisingly well together check it out.

Done Did It (feat. Nicole Wray & NOE)

Next up is Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. At first I was a little skeptical because of the lead singers voice but it grew on me. The whole sound is very unique and the first track especially makes me think I am at a drunk circus and honestly I can’t think of much better. But seriously this music is worth taking a listen to.

Over And Over Again (Lost And Found)

Finally this week check out Jets Overhead and their newest album No Nations. You can actually get the title track from this Canadian band from their website as well as listen to the album all for free. A lot of it actually reminds me of Radiohead. If you don’t feel like going over to the website and getting the track for yourself here it is.

Eric Clapton - Before You Accuse Me

John Frusciante - Murderers

Lady Sovereign - Got U Dancing (Jack Beats Remix)

Guinness is the only good thing about Dublin

So last night I went to see Jack Beats at the Button Factory in Dublin, Ireland. Amazing. Their whole set was pack full of great beats and completely danceable music. There was one thing that ruined the whole show, Dublin. Now I have been living here for a while and I know that the people here really cannot dance and thats fine. But don’t go to a show for an international act and try to make requests to the DJ. I literally heard a girl say “I’m gonna go ask if he can play some house music.” I’m sorry but that is just wrong. Anyways definitely check out Jack Beats. They make amazing tracks and have an amazing live set. Now just come to the US so I can party with people who really know how to. Here are some of the newest stuff from these guys and a video of them live so you know that they are actually amazing.

Diplo & Blaqstarr - Get Off

Passion Pit - Little Secrets

La Roux - I'm Not Your Toy

Saturday Night Mix

Here is a mix for your Saturday night dance party… please enjoy responsibly (aka don’t overplay). This mix has bee brought to you by Algeronics. Algeronics was formed in 2006 by George Banzon at only 14 years old. Originally it was intended to be based on deep electronica but has since become synonymous with french-electro being influenced by Daft Punk and Justice. Here are a few of the tracks that have been put out so far.

Gwen Stefani - Hallaback Girl

Aphex Twins - Windowlicker

Daft Punk - Digital Love

Major Lazer Is Holding Down The Fort

I finally got around to getting Major Lazer’s first ever album Gunz Don’t Kill People, Lazers Do and wow it is awesome. Major Lazer is "[a] renegade commando with a lazer arm and a rocket-powered skateboard who fights the spoils of vampires, zombies, pimps, mummies, and other unsavory forces of evil" (from a press release). This Jamaican soldier is the product of a collaboration between DJ’s Diplo and Switch. The Album features many names including Santigold, Mr. Vegas, and The Crookers. Overall I feel this album will get any party going and how could you not want party with this commander of the dance floor.

For Your Viewing Pleasure

These are some awesome videos for both your viewing and listening pleasure. Its been a long couple of days and with this blog still in its infancy I figured I would just add something for pleasure. Ain’t nothin wrong with that, right? So here they are.

The Kleptones are amazing and this is a video for Voodoo Sabotage. Check out their music and they are going to be coming out with a new album in the near future so keep an eye out.

Vampire Weekend makes great music and this video for A-Punk makes them seem like some fun guys to hang out with.

Miike Snow is another great band who oddly enough has no one named Miike Snow in the band but anyways, here is the video for Animals.

New Music Monday

Here are 3 bands that I’m hoping are new for you so you can start your week off right.

1. Phoenix

Phoenix is an indie, electronic, rock band with a hint of pop upbeat sounds. I’ve been diggin it for a little while now but when I heard they were up for a Grammy I figured I had to talk about them. They are up for Best Alternative Music Album for Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix and they surely have my vote. If none of there songs get stuck in your head then you must not have been listening. The vocals and synths are addicting. They do have some tough competition though with bands like the Yeah Yeah Yeah, Death Cab For Cutie, Depeche Mode, and David Byrne & Brian Eno. Here is my favorite song off the album.

1901 - Phoenix

2. The Boy Least Likely To

Here is a band who has somehow not gained the popularity that they deserve. I love this band from Jolly Olde England. I can never feel anything but joy while listening. The use of interesting sounds and a seemingly childish attitude brings me back to my younger years. I’m not saying I am very old but I can imagine myself playing in a sandbox with my neighbor, thats all. The album art is also great and all of the drawings are done by the singer Jof Owen’s brother Tim. They did just come out with a new single called The Summer Of A Dormouse and you can hear it on their myspace but unfortunately it is only available on limited edition vinyl so I could not bring it to you but here is my favorite track by them.

Be Gentle With Me - The Boy Least Likely To

3. Matt & Kim

Matt & Kim are from brooklyn but believe it or not Matt is from Vermont (thats for all my fellow classmates). Their indie pop music is so simple but it also sounds so full at the same time. They have been playing a few festivals such as Lollapalooza since their album debut in 2006. The reason why I am talking about them right now is that they just won Best Video Woodie from MTVu. They have had a few great music videos and the video for “5K” was actually not allowed to be played in the US because it was too violent. I’ve seen it and its not all that bad just a little freaky. The won the Woodie for there music video Lessons Learned.

When Cool Kids Go Fishing

The Cool Kids recently put out a mixtape with Don Cannon who is known for working with acts such as 50 Cent and Ludacris. This is nothing short of the typical awesomeness that The Cool Kids put out. Plus with Don Cannon you know the beats are gonna be sick. The first track or two does have that annoying typical shouting out of the producers name but thats about the only problem I have with this mixtape. Other than that its been jam after jam. So get it, throw it on, and enjoy.

Grab the mixtape here.

A few tracks that I especially liked. Look out for Ludacris on Pennies.

Discovery-LP

As of late I have stumbled upon Discovery and their LP. They have a way of being melodically digital and at the same time cannot help but bob my head and move my feet. It has gotten me through many of my long travels. The song Osaka Loop Line has amazing tempo changes and is put together in an interesting way. Other songs to check out: I Want You Back and their cover of Ra Ra Riot's Can You Tell? called Can You Discover? These guys are definiately worth the time.
