New Music Monday #4 (jj, The Twelves, Miami Horror)

These are some hot bands on the internet these days and they are all releasing music soon. jj is a swedish duo that has a very unique sound. At first I wasn't so into it but it grew on me. It is kind of tropical and a little ambient so it isn't my traditional taste but hey I like it. They had their debut ep “n° 1” and album “n° 2” this year and “n° 3” is supposed to come out sometime in the beginning of this year.

Masterplan

The Twelves is another duo but this time they are out of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This electro-pop mashup band have progressively gotten greater attention having showed up on bills with LCD Sound Systems and Phoenix. What makes them unique is that they do a combination of live synth instruments and remixing giving them an amazing sound. They are coming out with a new album soon so be on the look out.

A-Ha – Take On Me (The Twelves Remix)

Miami Horror is a DJ who comes to us actually from Melbourne, Australia. He has produced dance hit after dance hit having remixed songs for Pnau and Datarock. He has had a few EPs out but the freshman album is coming soon (not soon enough if you ask me). Oh and apparently Neon Indian is helping out on some of the vocals. Should be good.

New Music Monday #3

This week its all about electro, 80's, pop, that sorta thing. First off its Neon Indian. This is a texas band that has reinvented the term “band” with there only being one musician (Alan Palomo) and the other being a video component (Alicia Scardetta). Originally Palomo was a film student himself and his basement project Neon Indian became something much more. Now it has become a serious project and Pitchfork gave the album Psychic Chasms a Best New Music award and had two tracks in the top 100 of 2009 list.

Deadbeat Summer

Fizzy Dino Pop is another texas based band and has played some shows with Neon Indian. Made up of Avery Williamson and Yuria Hashimoto this group I feel is more along the lines of daft punk. They just announced a west coast tour with Sore Losers so if that is you check back at their website for tour dates www.fizzydinopop.com

Space

The last artist is Ellie Goulding. A little birdie told me about this one just recently. I am addicted to the vocals and the bouncy dance feel that accompanies them. My only problem is that you can only purchase her music from the British Itunes. If anyone knows where to purchase her music in the US please let me know. She has toured recently with Little Boots and now has some shows with Passion Pit (I wish she could have been at the show I went to). Anyways, please enjoy this health plate of disco tunes.

Passion Pit Live!

It just dawned on me that I never discussed Passion Pit at Terminal 5 (NYC). Simply Amazing! I saw them on sunday and it was one of the greatest shows that I have ever seen. Going into it I had heard mixed reviews of them but I would say disregard any negative comments about their performance. It was jam after jam and it never let up. The worst part about the show was that it ended. Their next US appearance wont be until the end of March for the Ultra Music Festival, which marks the start of their next American tour. Trust me people you need to see them live.

The Sounds Of Shwayze

I heard about these guys because of the people over at Okay! Okay! Shwayze is the duo of Shwayze and Cisco Adler. Their newest album Let It Beat is great. Its kind of a combination between hip hop and like cali rock. Okay! Okay! Just went on tour with them and documented the whole thing producing webisodes along the way. Check 'em out at www.iamrogue.com/shwayze.

Winter's Cold Is Too Much To Handle

...Pincher crabs that pinch at your sandals
These words hit a little too close to home with the Vermont winter to come. The thought of a nice warm beach make it all seem a little bit better. These words are from the first track off of Vampire Weekend's newest album Contra from the track Horchata. This album is amazing. It is very much reminiscent of their last album but it seems a little more tropical. Not that I'm complaining or anything because I love the feel of the whole thing. The timing of this album seems very appropriate. Song after song there are references to vacations, winters, summers, snow, and sand. Having come out just after the holidays and the beginning of the harsh winter to come its hard not to receive this with open arms. It hits the spot just like a nice cup of hot chocolate.
